If you're switching to a wholesale supplier for the first time, or just trying to figure out the right order size, this is the question that matters most. Order too little and you're reordering constantly. Order too much and you're sitting on stale beans.
Here's a practical breakdown.
The rough rule of thumb
Most espresso-based cafés use around 1kg of coffee beans per 60–80 cups served. So if you're pulling 200 coffees a day across a six-day week, you're looking at roughly 15–20kg per week.
That said, it varies depending on your grind size, dose weight, and whether you're running single or double shots as your default. A café dialling in tight on 18g doses will use less than one that's heavy-handed.
A simple way to calculate yours
Start with your weekly cup count, then divide by 60. That gives you a conservative estimate of your weekly bean usage in kilograms. If you're not sure on cup count, pull your weekly till total and divide by your average coffee price — that gives you a rough transaction count to work from.
What order size does that translate to?
Here's how typical weekly volumes map to our available pack sizes:
- Under 6kg/week — our 6kg or 12kg packs work well, ordered fortnightly
- 6–10kg/week — the 18kg or 24kg packs give you a comfortable buffer
- 10–15kg/week — look at 36kg or 39kg packs ordered monthly
- 15kg+ per week — the 48kg, 60kg or 90kg options reduce your reorder frequency significantly
Ordering in larger quantities means less admin and fewer gaps in your supply. Our coffee is roasted fresh to order regardless of pack size, so you're not getting stale beans in exchange for buying more.
